Eagle Cap Wilderness FAQs

The Eagle Cap Wilderness is the largest wilderness in the state of Oregon. The peaks range up to 9,845 ft. and down to 3,600 ft. containing 53 lakes and a small ice field. There is fishing in most of the lakes and streams and an abundance of wildflowers, birds and wildlife.

 

 


 

Eagle Cap Wilderness Horseback Rides

Let the horse focus on the trail while you take in the incredible beauty of the Eagle Cap. Leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life and settle into a rugged outdoor adventure and bring home memories of a lifetime. You can choose rides from an hour, two hour, half-day or all day. All rides have their own vistas and travel rugged mountain trails on experienced horses. Our Guides are knowledgable and are happy to answer any questions you have about the area.

GENERAL RIDE INFORMATION

 

Minimum age for riders is 6 years old.  All rides are guided. Absolutely no running of horses. Please try to reserve a time to ride if possible. Cameras are welcome but carry them at your own risk. You will have fantastic photo opportunities. Plan to arrive 20 min. prior to ride time to complete liability release.


HOURLY RIDES $30
Hourly rides at 8, 9, 10,11 am and 1, 2, 3, 4 pm. This is a 2 mile ride which circles across Bonneville Mt. You will climb approximately 1,000 ft. and will have several gorgeous views of Wallowa Lake.

TWO HOUR RIDES $60
The 2 hour ride is approximately a 4 mile ride which follows the east fork of the Wallowa River. 2 hour rides depart at 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.

HALF DAY RIDES
4 or more people $90 per person


The 4 hour ride is approximately 8 miles and follows the west fork of the Wallowa River. You will take a 30 minute break on the river and will see several falls and a pristine river. These rides are from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. You may bring a drink and snacks.

DAY RIDES TO:

8 AM to 5 PM

We furnish a pack animal to pack lunches and fishing gear. Bring water or other drinks.  This day ride takes you approximately 7  miles into the wilderness to an absolutely pristine lake with crystal clear water. You will ride through peaceful meadows, across rippling brooks, and experience breathtaking views. Depending on the time it takes to ride in, you will have approximately 3 hours at Aneroid Lake to hike, fish, etc. The brook trout range in size from 6" -10".  Small groups will be combined to give everyone the benefit of the best price.

You can take the all-day ride without the use of a mule.  We'll provide saddle bags to carry drinks and lunch.
